The Unknown

http://thumbnails.cbsig.net/CBS_Production_Entertainment/63/271/CBS_NCIS_204_IMAGE_CIAN_640x480_2212797595.jpgThis week's episode of NCIS was probably one of my favorite of the season.  Everything about it was intriguing.  The case of faking the attempted assassination of the Secretary of the Navy, Jamie Lee Curtis being back, even some Tiva stuff.  I was really a fan!  Let's start with the case.

In the very first scene we see the Sec Nav get shot!  It was a wild beginning and who was the shooter?  It was out good friend Samwise!  Yes Sean Astin guest starred this week.  It was a set up to see the reaction of Sac Nav's friend who just happened to be the dad on Boy Meets World.  First Awake and now NCIS?  Mr. Matthews is sure back in the TV scene!  Anyway so they interrogated him while the good doctor (Jamie Lee Curtis) watched to see his reactions to things.  There were moments when she saw things and others when Gibbs saw things.  Between the two everything was eventually figured out.

We see from almost the very beginning that there is still a spark between Jamie Lee Curtis and Gibbs.  They are talking and laughing and Gibbs has a "bounce" in his step.  The only one to catch this is Ziva.  Her female intuition catches this almost from the beginning and she is working to prove it for the entire episode.  Gibbs and Dr. Samantha Ryan have this thing going the whole episode.  The subject of her son comes up again and there is definitely something else there with respect to him.  We see a picture he drew of him and Ryan sailing off into the sunset and she is still constantly worrying about him.  Gibbs and Ryan play this game of flirting and giving each other looks the whole episode.  We learn that Ryan has some issues of her own.  She hates being wrong and needs others to tell her she is wrong.  Gibbs won't give her this.  After the case is wrapped up we go back to Gibbs' house where he and Ryan are talking.  She is nervous about something.  We do get to witness a kiss between them.  A long kiss.  Then she says she has to go.  We finally understand what her big thing with her son is.  Her ex-husband was abusive and she is even still running from him.  She always has to look after her son first and foremost.  Gibbs offers to help but Ryan won't have it.  I have a feeling that storyline isn't over.

There are shows like Castle and Bones that have the lovestory at the main forefront of the series.  NCIS doesn't do that and I respect it.  It makes the small moments even more important.  This was definitely an episode of small moments for Ziva and Tony.  It begins with Ziva constantly calling Tony because she doesn't know where he is.  When he finally shows up she won't leave him alone.  He compares her to the "hot crazy" lady in Fatal Attraction.  She does recognize he called her hot.  Besides this Ziva is constantly trying to get Tony to see this "bounce" in Gibbs' step.  He doesn't see it.  There are other small moments but we mainly go bug at the end.  The two have a very big conversation about the unknown and about things that can't be explained.  There are no jokes, no saracastic comments, just a real deep conversation.  It ends with Ziva telling Tony how bad it is to keep things bottled up for too long (hint hint wink wink bob's your uncle).  I know by now you're dying to see it.  Fine fine I'll embed it.

Anyway so this episode gave us a lot.  From here we look towards the final few episodes featuring Jimmy's Wedding, Tony and Ziva taking a trip to see one of Ziva's old friends, the "kid from Baltimore", and a huge Vance episode next week.  I'll be right there with ya!
